Saint Paul captures the road home in his letter to the Christians in Corinth when he says we ‘with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being changed into his likeness from one degree of glory to another.’
I contemplate these words daily. Imagine what they convey! In the afterlife we will see God face-to-face. Unveiled, we will behold his glory. On earth it happens in contemplation. This transcendent and immanent God dwells among us! Through his Holy Spirit we intimately experience him in our hearts when we earnestly seek him.
Is it any wonder that those who meet him in prayer would be transformed and want to dwell in his presence?
Imagine total self-renunciation devoted to prayer.
